An Epiphany Celebration

Sunday, January 7, 2018, 2:30pm

Featuring:
ChoralArt Camerata
Rev. J. Barrie Shepherd, reader
Kathleen Scott, pianist

Director’s Notes, Robert Russell: An Epiphany Celebration features the sublime a cappella voices of the ChoralArt Camerata. We welcome Rev. J. Barrie Shepherd, minister emeritus of The First Presbyterian Church in the City of New York, as our guest, who will read poetry to complement our singing of works by Henryk Górecki, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Morten Lauridsen, Leonard Bernstein, and Tomás Luis de Victoria among others.

The winner of the 4th Annual New England Carol Contest, Deanna Witkowski will have her winning entry A Christmas Carol premiered at the concert. The first half of this year’s program centers on the theme “Out of this World,” and will feature Ēriks Ešenvalds’ Northern Lights – a musical evocation of the wondrous celestial phenomenon. The second half explores the theme of miraculous birth, spotlighting Morten Lauridsen’s classic O magnum mysterium, widely regarded as this century’s best setting of this timeless text.
