Portland Symphony Orchestra and ChoralArt Masterworks
Beethoven 9th Symphony
Director’s Notes, Robert Russell: Arguably the most influential symphony ever composed, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Choral) has earned a place in the orchestral canon as a work of immense power and uncanny craftsmanship. Beethoven was the pre-eminent composer of his generation, and his work—particularly in the composition of symphonies, string quartets, and piano sonatas—set a standard for generations to come. The final movement has become a clarion call for universal brotherhood, joy emanating from our mutual embrace of one another in peaceful coexistence. Robert Moody leads the Portland Symphony Orchestra, ChoralArt Masterworks, and a quartet of distinguished soloists.
