Attendance Policy

  • Members must attend at least 80% of regular rehearsals to sing the concert(s). This usually means there are two absences allowed per concert.
    • Three tardy arrivals or early departures equal one absence.
    • Attendance is mandatory at all final rehearsals.

A singer is expected to make a commitment to all concerts in the season if at all possible.

Absences for extenuating circumstances—your illness, an emergency in your family, or unanticipated job obligations—are completely understandable. An occasional absence because of travel with family is also OK.

There is the option to attend rehearsal by Zoom. This is intended for those who are sick or out of town, or because of inclement weather that makes it unsafe to travel. The Attendance Committee would like to stress that attending by Zoom is not the same as being there in person. It is not possible for the conductor to shape a chorus of singers who are not there in person. With this in mind, we ask you to limit your Zoom attendance due to travel to a maximum of 3 per concert cycle. Members may ask for an exception to the policy, which will be reviewed by the Attendance Committee.

Any member who asks for special dispensation may go through a mandatory re-audition for that concert. This would entail having their Section Leader sit next to them for a rehearsal to ascertain whether or not the individual is appropriately prepared for the concert.

Please do not go to Bob with your attendance issues. The Attendance Committee was formed specifically to spare Bob these issues, as he has other fish to fry. If the Attendance Committee gives you a final answer that you want to appeal to Bob, then you may do so.

This policy will be announced at the first rehearsal for each concert cycle and the Attendance Committee members will stand. If a Committee member will not be singing a certain concert, a substitute should be designated and introduced to their section.
